2. Would you prefer marrying someone from your own race, or is race not a factor?

answer choices

f m

a. I only prefer someone who is my own race.

3 1

b. Race is not a factor.

Eighteen female and nine male respondents state that race is not a factor in choosing a spouse. Three female respondents only prefer someone who is of Asian ethnicity, and one female and one male respondent only prefer someone who is Khmer/part Khmer. One woman selected both "Race is not a factor" and "I only prefer someone who is Khmer/part Khmer." Perhaps an appropriate forth alternative for the survey would have been "Although race is generally not a factor, I would prefer a person of Khmer descent." Nevertheless, given the choices available, the results demonstrate a general lack of ethnocentricism among young Cambodian American adults in relation to spousal selection.
