After hundreds of years, the stones
of Ta Prohm ("Grandfather Brahma") and the trees of the forest have become magnificently
intertwined, dramatically displaying the continual struggle between
the creations of nature and man. Purposely kept in this state by its
conservators, visitors to the temple get a glimpse of what 19th
century explorers might have seen in coming across the great
monuments of Angkor. According to stone inscriptions, Ta Prohm held
power over almost 80,000 citizens and was responsible for the
administration of 102 hospitals. It was dedicated to King Jayavarman
VII's mother in 1186AD.
