|
| Khmer legend credits the
Preah Khan (royal/sacred sword) for having helped Jayavarman II unify
the lands of the Khmer in the early 9th century AD, thus founding the Angkorian Empire.
This temple of the same name was dedicated to King Jayavarman VII's
father in 1191AD and is an immense structure that supports 102 prasats
(towers). During its time, the authorities at Preah Khan held sway
over almost 100,000 citizens and Preah Khan itself was known to have been home to a
famous school. |
