| Banteay Srei
("Fortress of Women") is considered by many to be the most
exquisite of all Khmer monuments. Pink sandstone was utilized for
its construction, resulting in a unique pink coloration. Although
small relative to other Angkorian temples, Banteay Srei's lack of
size is more than compensated for in its detailed and delicate
beauty. The commission of its construction is actually credited to
two wealthy and powerful Brahmans, Yajnavaraha and Vishnukumara, rather than any
particular king.
